At present, there are 16 legally recognized churches and religious societies and nine state-registered religious denominations in Austria. Recognition is not only associated with certain privileges. The state rather expresses that it values the contribution of these churches and religious communities to successful coexistence. The latter also applies to the state-registered religious denominations. Consequently, there are also expectations of these churches and religious communities. The conference proceedings contain the presentations by representatives of the legally recognized churches and religious communities as well as the state-registered religious denominations on the question of what contribution these communities make to the well-being of the state and society in Austria, and for which they will be called upon more in the future.en_US
