oapen.abstract.otherlanguageThis text addresses, through the presentation of pedagogical research, the context and factors that come together in the teaching of English in the local context. The first part of this book addresses the concept of intercultural communicative competence, presenting approaches and models in chapter 1, and in chapter 2, the conceptions that a group of teachers from La Araucanía have regarding its development. In the second part of the book, various contexts and pedagogical experiences associated with the intercultural experience are addressed. These contexts and experiences were surveyed by students of Pedagogy in English from the University of La Frontera as part of their pedagogical research work leading to the degree of Bachelor of Education. The third part presents theories on the approach to the development of reading comprehension and written production in intercultural contexts and methodological proposals for the development of communicative competence in the English classroom. The aim of this publication is to contribute to the understanding of the scenarios in which English is taught in intercultural contexts, while proposing specific methodological approaches for the development of reading comprehension, based on the experiences and stories of the Mapuche culture. This material will be useful for both English teachers in training and for teachers in practice.
