oapen.abstract.otherlanguageThe aim of this essay, far from any ambition to be exhaustive, is to recall the path of construction and evolution of an autonomous trade union and labour culture, within Italian trade union pluralism, such as that which gave rise to the CISL (Confederazione Italiana Sindacati Lavoratori). The text starts from the early 1950s and traces some fundamental and evolutionary aspects of this confederation. The text recalls the characterising ideas and founding values of the union founded by Giulio Pastore and analyses how these aspects were gradually translated into concrete representation and protection of workers through contractual, organisational and training dimensions.
