intelectuales, arte y política en Venezuela
Language
SpanishAbstract
The Venezuelan sixties differ from other countries in the Latin American region, because during this time a democratic formula was consolidated that would last until the electoral victory of Hugo Chávez forty years later. Despite the military and guerrilla uprisings of the first unstable years of democracy, towards the end of the decade the rifles were replaced by speeches that had a place in the new political space. This arc of rise and fall of radicalization had its translation in the cultural landscape. This book offers a critical look at the cultural activities of the sixties without renouncing the historicization of a context of political effervescence that problematizes the issue of violence as a hallmark of the decade. To do this, the aesthetic proposals and the different debates and controversies within the cultural sphere are collected, offering the reader unfamiliar with Venezuelan history to visualize the dynamics of a cultural field in transformation, in which different groups emerge, intersect and disintegrate in a few years. The historiographic proposal is thus nourished by the history of intellectuals, life stories, the sociology of culture, the theory of art and the critical analysis of discourse.“At last a whole book about the literary and artistic movements of revolutionary proclamation that took place in Venezuela during the sixth decade of the 20th century” – Alfredo Chacón.
