        Abstract
In our multilingual societies, communication and collaboration between people are more important than ever. One of the school’s most important missions is therefore to provide students with opportunities to develop their linguistic abilities, enhance intercultural and multilingual competence, and learn to navigate diverse cultural contexts. This anthology is intended to offer inspiration, valuable insights, and practical advice to teachers and other school professionals responsible for language teaching and education, as well as to serve as a resource for student teachers, teacher educators, and researchers working with language in an educational context. The anthology brings together texts that highlight language education from both theoretical and practical-didactic perspectives. With contributions from practicing teachers, teacher educators, and researchers, the anthology turns its focus toward contemporary language teaching and illustrates the breadth present in the Nordic school context. The authors’ contributions address a wide range of classroom practices, such as the teaching of language competencies, assessment practices, and factors influencing language teaching and learning. The idea for the anthology arose in connection with the 60th anniversary of the Centre for Professional Development and Internationalisation in Schools (Fortbildningsavdelningen för skolans internationalisering) at Uppsala University in 2024.
