        Abstract
For centuries, collections of historical coins at German-speaking universities have represented vibrant teaching, learning, and research laboratories, possessing significant academic significance, remarkable teaching potential, and public appeal. This remarkable university collection complex was assembled primarily with academic considerations in mind and thus possesses particular relevance for research and teaching. However, the holdings have only been partially documented and only selectively, never systematically, researched. A unique academic treasure lies dormant here. This volume presents, for the first time, a comprehensive picture of the history, present, and future of university coin collections in German-speaking countries. The contributions were written by scholars who work on and with university coin collections in a variety of ways.
