        Abstract
With the Deutsche Volksliste (German People’s List, DVL) the racist Nazi policy aimed to enforce a separation of the German and “foreign race” population in occupied western Poland (1939–1945). The study not only analyses the legal genesis of the Deutsche Volksliste, but first and foremost its direct application in the newly formed entities of the Reichsgaue of Wartheland and Danzig-West Prussia in 1939 using both qualitative and quantitative studies. The latter refers to three districts in these two Reichsgaue in question. In addition, individual cases are presented in order to discuss motives for admission or exclusion to Deutsche Volksliste. Finally, the study also discusses interdependencies between the National Socialists and the people affected, who were in part able to “control”.
