This edited volume [Methodologies and Research Methods in Sociology of Education] examines research methods in the sociology of education and their paradigmatic development. Its twelve chapters describe the range of methodological approaches used in contemporary research, from register-based data to ethnography, from network analysis to conceptual history. The structure of the volume proceeds thematically from studies examining societal structures to research focusing on social interaction and discourse, and finally to key methodological questions in multi-perspective sociology of education. Using their empirical data, the authors explore, for example, what demands do research questions place on methods, and what kinds of epistemological and ontological assumptions guide methodological choices and knowledge formation in the field. The book is intended for researchers and professionals in education and social sciences. In addition to supporting research, the volume also serves as a textbook for higher education.
