This volume brings together a series of contributions produced, both from history and sociology and from cultural and literary studies, within the framework of the commemoration of the bicentennial of Central American independence in 2021. The aim is to provide theoretical and critical perspectives from frames interdisciplinary, until now, little represented in the critical production on this commemorative event. The articles are organized into three thematic axes: “Central America in the face of international hegemony”, which discusses the position of subordination occupied by Central America vis-à-vis different external powers throughout its history; “Identity re-constructions, memory and mobility in/from Central America”, with reflections on the subordination of bodies and subjectivities within the framework of nation-state projects; and, finally, “Intellectual field and ideologies in dispute”, which addresses the construction and necessary demystification of some Central American intellectual figures.
