    Abstract
Zuletzt werden curriculare Entwicklungen des Faches „Lebenskunde" in Japan vorgestellt.; "Research on Sachunterricht" was the theme of the fifth annual conference of the Gesellschaft für Didaktik des Sachunterrichts. This volume begins with an overview of the results and problems of empirical research into non-fiction teaching and the importance of qualitative research methods. This is followed by studies on action-orientation in non-fiction teaching, on the effects of television on children's everyday experiences, beliefs and school performance, on learning in the natural sciences, and on a survey of current practice in non-fiction teaching. Qualitatively orientated research work is devoted to didactic action to promote experiences of nature, the significance of life plans and learning prerequisites of primary school children, the teaching of key problems typical of the epoch and the status of historical learning in subject teaching. Finally, curricular developments of the subject "Life Studies" in Japan are presented.
