        Abstract
Under the Ancien Régime, fairs and the games they attracted were held throughout France, varying in duration and prestige according to the importance of the towns concerned. This book analyses the expression and deployment of this fairground activity, including the peregrinations of the fairgoers themselves over a span of almost two centuries.
