        Abstract
The essay reconstructs the activity of the outsider artist Livio Poggesi, from his beginnings in the painting atelier of the neuropsychiatric hospital of Arezzo, in 1958, until his death, which occurred in this hospital in 1985. The paintings of Livio Poggesi , a self-taught with fifth grader who liked to paint, write and study, reflect the emotional and sentimental agitations of his life: dreams, memories, anxiety and visions are transmitted to us through his paintings. However, Livio is not an artist because he suffers from mental pathologies; on the contrary, he is a brilliant artist with some mental disorders. They are works free from any formal heritage and from any cultural and stylistic influence (previous or contemporary styles and movements), creations that go beyond our habits and models.
