Chapter La vittimizzazione sessuale online tra pari
Abstract
Sexual violence can happen in person or through technology, like when someone shares or posts private images online without the victim's consent. There is still disagreement over the definition and description of online sexual harassment despite the large number of studies conducted on this topic. The research has really long ignored the interactions between peers and instead concentrated on the ways that adolescents are victimized by adults, strangers, or romantic partners. With a definition of the construct from a theoretical and measurement perspective as well as a description of its features, this work seeks to advance understanding of the phenomena of online sexual harassment among peers. Additionally, the prevalence of the phenomena of online sexual harassment among peers in the Italian setting was examined in comparison to the more extensively researched problem of cybervictimization. The two behaviors, although very similar, seem to be associated with different risk factors.
