        Abstract
        Wadi’ al-Bustani (1888-1954) foi um advogado da causa palestiniana e também um reputado tradutor de literatura indiana para árabe. Nascido na região de Chouf (atual Líbano), Bustani transitou entre o mundo árabe, a Índia e a África do Sul. Autor da primeira tradução de Tagore para árabe, dedicou a sua vida a anotar e a traduzir para árabe o Mahabharata, o Ramaiana e o Xacuntalá de Calidaça. A par deste projeto, que ele próprio apoiou e financiou, Bustani foi um dos mais importantes poetas e advogados do Mandato Britânico da Palestina, incitando atos de protesto através da sua poesia e litigando contra as políticas territoriais coloniais. Ao analisar a prática política e filológica de Bustani, o historiador Esmat Elhalaby pergunta-nos neste breve ensaio se o estudo de outro povo implica necessariamente supremacia e domínio. Para Bustani, a Índia era ao mesmo tempo um território repleto de diferença e uma geografia indissociável da sua própria pátria.

        Export search results
