    Abstract
    Mit einem Satz des Dichters Paul Valéry betitelt François Hartog seine Suche nach den Schlüsselmomenten in der Begegnung der europäischen Neuzeit mit dem antiken Griechenland und schöpft dabei aus seiner langjährigen Auseinandersetzung mit der Alten Geschichte und der Historiographie sowie ihrer Theorie. Das Ergebnis ist eine Studie, die von den Anciens et Modernes zu den politischen Diskursen des revolutionären und Napoleonischen Frankreich zur deutschen Begeisterung für die griechische Antike führt und sogar die Malerei von Altdorfer bis Lichtenstein berücksichtigt. Ein bibliographischer Essay des Historikers Dimitris Kousouris über die Befassung des modernen Griechenland mit dem Alten rundet den Band ab.

    Export search results
